I am a Student (Highschool/College Freshman):

When maps guide a process, you get where you're going.

I was having a ton of problems figuring out how to write an essay that my teachers liked. I mean, I know what I want to say, but when I sit down to write, it never comes out the way I think it's going to. My teachers all want to know where the "thesis" is, but when I think too hard about that kind of stuff, I suddenly don't even know where to start writing. But I found this thing on the net that does a lot of the organizing for me, and now my essays are making a lot more sense.
There's a map on the Dekstrus web site called "How to write an academic essay". It's a map, so I can see how everything fits together. And the map goes right from the very beginning, where I have to come up with an idea, right to the end where I have the finished paper in my hand. There are a bunch of steps, but all of the steps are pretty easy, so I feel like I know what I'm doing the whole time.
I like that the map is interactive. My teachers have drawn "maps" of how to write essays before, but even when their maps make sense on the chalk board, I go home and have trouble figuring out how to use them in real life. With the DNE map, I fill up the map with information as I go. I attach my notes where it says. The map asks questions and I answer them. Because everything is attached right to the map, I don't lose and forget stuff.
I think that, when I've done a few more essays, I might want to make some little changes the map I'm using, just to make my essays a little more personal. And with the Dekstrus DNE, I'll be able to do that. But for right now I'm happy to have a map that I can follow. It makes writing my essays a lot less stressful, and I'm writing better essays because of it, too.
